P. Nallini is first Malaysian Indian woman on nation's highest court

 



The 59-year-old was one of the four new judges elevated to the Federal Court from the Court of Appeal in a swearing-in ceremony here at the Palace of Justice on Monday (Nov 26).

Born on Aug 23, 1959, in Penang, Justice Nallini holds a bachelor's degree in Science from the University of London and a law diploma from Westminster University.

Her legal career started in 1984 when she was admitted to the English Bar as a solicitor by the Middle Temple of the United Kingdom.

She became a Court of Appeal judge on Sept 12, 2014.

Nallini has co-authored a book titled "The Law of Dismissal", which was published by CCH Publications.

An advocate and solicitor of 20 years standing, Nallini has had wide–ranging litigation experience and in recent years, Nallini’s practice was focused on complex trials in securities, tort, contract, medico–legal and probate. In addition to extensive trial experience, she has routinely appeared in the Court of Appeal and the Federal Court. At least 40 of the cases handled by her have been reported in the law reports, including several landmark decisions.
